Conditions
General
  • If you are travelling abroad with a pet, you are bound by the laws and regulations of all the countries you are travelling through. That means your pet must have been chipped, be vaccinated in time against rabies and have a valid pet passport. For more information, please consult your veterinary surgeon.
  • EU customs rules also apply to ICE, and animals not permitted include the following: wild animals, birds and dangerous dogs. 
 
On board ICE
  • Pets are allowed in second and first class.
  • Pets are not allowed in the bar coach, although guide and assistance dogs are.
  • It is not possible to reserve a seat for a pet.
  • Small pets transported in a cage, bag or basket with a maximum size of 30x30x55 cm can travel for free. A ticket is not required.
    • If the train is crowded, the cage, bag or basket must go on your lap.
  • Larger dogs that do not fit in a bag, cage or basket must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle.
    • It is required to purchase a ticket for larger dogs. The price depends on the destination and availability of offers.
    • The ticket for a dog is booked in the same class as the passenger.
    • The price of a dog ticket is 50% of the ticket price for an adult passenger.

  • If you are travelling between two Dutch stations, you can purchase or charge a NS Dagkaart Hond [day ticket dog] at NS ticket vending machines.
