ÖBB Nightjet » Travelling with a pet

If you are travelling abroad with a pet, you are bound by the laws and regulations of all the countries you are travelling through. A valid pet passport with vaccinations required for the country is compulsory. For more information, please consult your veterinary surgeon.
 
Conditions
  • Travelling with dogs is only permitted:
    • If you book an entire compartment.
      • Please note: Pets are not allowed in the Mini Cabins. Mini Cabins are available on the renovated ÖBB Nightjet trains on the route Hamburg - Wien Hbf/Innsbruck.
    • If they do not bother other passengers.
    • If they are on a leash and wearing a muzzle when getting on and off the train.
    • If you use a dog blanket for the dog to lie on.
  • Small pets in a travel bag or basket travel free of charge. You do not need a ticket for them.
  • Large dogs travel at a charge. You purchase the ticket on the train from the train manager. You can pay by credit card or in cash.
  • For travelling with a dog on Nightjet Amsterdam - Zurich coaches with only regular seats, you can book a ticket with Customer Service on +31 30 2300023, or at one of the NS International Service desks. For this section of the train the regular IC-fares and conditions for travelling with pets apply.
  • Guide dogs and assistance dogs travel free of charge and are not required to wear a muzzle.
  • Pets are not permitted on the Nightjet to Budapest. However, guide dogs and assistance dogs are allowed.
 
What next
  • Tickets for large dogs for the sleeper coaches cost € 29 and are available on the train from the Nightjet train manager.
