What should I do if I missed my train?

I missed my train while abroad
Are you currently abroad and have you missed your train because of train traffic disruption? Then go to the international service desk at your foreign station or the train staff. The staff can assist you further.

  • Is there no service desk at your foreign station? Then contact the original point of sales of your ticket.
    • If you have bought your ticket on NSInternational.com or via NS International Customer service, follow the step-by-step instructions on Change or cancel your trip to exchange or cancel your ticket yourself.
      • If you can exchange or cancel your ticket online, but instead ask NS International Customer service or a NS International Service desk to do this for you, you pay a service fee.
      • In all other cases, contact the original point of sale.

  • Major disruptions
If you have missed your train because of major disruptions in train traffic due to, for example, extreme weather conditions, strikes or signal and switch failures, the impact is often large and complex. In that case, we publish large-scale exceptions for ticket conditions, travel alternatives and refunds as soon as possible on the Disruptions and maintenance page on NSInternational.com.

  • Belgium and Luxembourg
Have you missed an Eurocity Direct, EuroCity, Intercity or local train to, from or via Belgium or Luxembourg?
    • For tickets with a Flex fare: take a later Intercity or local train on the same date. You have to travel via the same route and border crossing.
    • For tickets with a (Super)Saver fare with restricted validity:
      • If you missed your train because of train traffic disruption, take the next connection available. You have to travel via the same route and border crossing.
      • If you missed your train due to another reason than train traffic disruption, you need to purchase a new ticket.

  • TGV or Eurostar (Belgium, France, Paris, London)
    • Have you missed a TGV or Eurostar train due to train traffic disruption? Go to the NS International Service desk or contact the original point of sales of your ticket. A member of staff will assist you.
    • TGV and Eurostar tickets are only valid on the booked train, date and class. If you are about to miss your train or have missed it for another reason than train traffic disruption, you can exchange or cancel the ticket according to the fare conditions and/or purchase a new ticket.
  • Germany, Switzerland, Austria and beyond
Have you missed a train from, to or via Germany?
    • Do you have a ticket with a Flexpreis fare? Then you are not bound to a chosen time and can take the next train on the same date. You have to via the same route and border crossing and with the same train category (ICE, Intercity or regional train) stated on your ticket. It is recommended to make a seat reservation.
    • Do you have a ticket with Supersparpreis or Sparpreis Europa fare and missed your train due to train traffic disruption? Go to the NS International Service desk or apporoach the train personnel. They can assist you further.
      • If you have a ticket with Supersparpreis or Sparpreis Europa fare and missed your train due to another reason than train traffic disruption, you will need to purchase a new ticket.
