General terms and conditions 
  • Children must hold a valid passport or identity card in their own name. 
  • Children must have all the required visas or other immigration documents for the countries they are travelling through. 
  • Minors (aged under 18) not accompanied by a parent or guardian must be able to prove in writing that they are travelling with consent from the parent(s) or guardian. 
    • For instance, please see the central government's consent form for travelling with a minor. 
 
Conditions per age group 
Aged up to 3 
  • Children aged up to 3 travel: 
    • Free of charge and without a ticket if they do not occupy a seat of their own. 
    • At a children’s fare (see age category 4 to 11) if you wish to book them a seat of their own. 
  • Children aged up to 3 always travel accompanied by: 
    • A parent or guardian. 
    • An adult passenger in possession of a consent statement from the parent(s) or guardian. 
 
Aged 4 to 11 
  • A special children's fare applies to children aged 4 to 11. 
  • Children aged up to 11 always travel accompanied by: 
    • A parent or legal guardian. 
    • An adult passenger in possession of a consent statement from the parent(s) or guardian. 
 
Aged 12 to 25 
  • There are no longer any special fares for young people.
    • For a TER train that is booked separately, a Découverte Youth can sometimes be issued. This is extremely rare, however. 
  • Minors must be able to prove that their parent(s) or guardian have given their consent for the journey.
