Conditions
  • Each passenger may take the following luggage on board:
    • two items of regular luggage such as a suitcase, rucksack, travel bag or trolley with maximum dimensions of 85 x 85 x 85 cm and one item of hand luggage, or:
    • one item of oversized luggage, one item of regular luggage and one item of hand luggage.
  • Only take luggage you can carry yourself.
  • Luggage must be stowed in the racks/spaces provided for this.
  • Luggage must not obstruct others.
  • Luggage may not be placed in the aisles.
  • You yourself are responsible for loading and unloading your luggage.
  • You remain responsible for your own luggage during the journey.
 
Oversized luggage
  • Oversized luggage means luggage that is different than standard luggage (such as a travel bag or suitcase), including:
    • Musical instruments in cases.
    • Folding bicycles (folded).
  • The maximum dimensions for oversized luggage are also 85 x 85 x 85 cm, with the exception of:
    • Pushchairs (preferably folded).
    • Skis in a protective cover.
  • Other conditions apply when taking a bicycle with you on the train.
 
Small electronic vehicles
The number of small electronic vehicles, such as electric scooters and hoverboards, is rapidly growing. These can be taken on the train under the following conditions:
  • They can only be taken if there is no risk of damage to passengers or the train. 
  • Place the vehicle under the seat or in the luggage rack in a bag, or secure it to the luggage rack with a lashing strip. 
  • Electric scooters and kickboards can only be taken if folded.
  • They may not be used on the train or at the station. 
  • Luggage or equipment (such as a helmet) must be removed from the vehicle during the journey. 
  • Each passenger may take one small vehicle on the train, so not both an electric scooter and a folding bicycle.  
  • Only built-in batteries are allowed. Batteries must not be removed from the vehicle. 
  • Batteries must not be charged using the power sockets located on the train. 
  • Batteries not built in are deemed hazardous items and may therefore not be taken on the train. The battery's capacity is stated on the battery.
    • Only batteries with a capacity of less than 100 Wh (Watt-hours)/0.1 kWh may be taken. This involves only batteries such as those of mobile telephones, laptops and power banks. 
 
Prohibited luggage
  • EU customs rules also apply to ICE. Prohibited items include the following:
    • Sports weapons such as crossbows or javelins
    • Oxygen canisters, unless accompanied by a medical passport indicating they are necessary
    • Ammunition, fireworks

What next
  • If your luggage meets the conditions, you can take it with you on board and stow it free of charge:
    • On the luggage racks above the seats.
    • A number of coaches is equipped with luggage racks at the front and back.
    • Under your seat.
