Conditions
The following applies to all passengers with an intellectual disability, visual impairment or reduced mobility:
  • Passengers with a disability travel at a regular fare.
  • Passengers with a disability who hold an OV-Begeleiderskaart [Public Transport Companion Card] may take an accompanying passenger and an assistance dog with them free of charge. The accompanying passenger acquires a free accompanying-passenger ticket.
    • Accompanying persons (including guide dogs) do not require a ticket if they travel on ICE only between two Dutch stations.
  • The accompanying passenger can be a person or an assistance dog.
    • If a child with a disability travels with an OV-begeleiderskaart accompanied by 1 adult, the child travels for an Unaccompanied Child fare.
    • If a child with a disability travels with an OV-begeleiderskaart accompanied by 2 adults, the child travels for an Accompanied Child fare.

Travelling with a wheelchair (electric or otherwise) or mobility scooter
  • There are two wheelchair spaces, each with a space for an accompanying passenger in second class.
  • Maximum wheelchair/mobility scooter dimensions: 125 x 70 cm (l x w).  
  • Options for travelling with a mobility scooter are limited. For advice, please contact telephone number +31 30-2357822.
  • Wheelchair access to toilet close to wheelchair spaces.
  • Vehicles with combustion engines are not allowed.
  • A wheelchair cannot be reserved on ICE in the case of a journey between two Dutch stations.

Accompanying passenger
  • Passengers with a disability who hold an OV-Begeleiderskaart [Public Transport Companion Card] may take an accompanying passenger and an assistance dog with them free of charge. The accompanying passenger acquires a free accompanying-passenger ticket for this purpose.
  • If more accompanying passengers are travelling, they do so at normal fares.
  • The accompanying passenger may be a person or a dog.
    • An assistance dog is not required to wear a muzzle.
    • Assistance dogs are allowed in the bar coach.
  • An accompanying-passenger ticket is available to/from the Netherlands and for routes within Germany.
 
Children holding an OV-Begeleiderskaart
  • Children aged up to 14.
  • At what fare does a child with a disability travel?
    • Child accompanied by one adult: the child travels at the 'Unaccompanied Child fare" and the adult travels with a free accompanying-passenger ticket.
    • Child accompanied by two adults: one adult may travel with a free accompanying-passenger ticket, the second travels at a regular fare, and the child travels at an "Accompanied Child fare".
 
Oxygen canisters 
  • Oxygen canisters are only allowed with a medical passport.

  • You can request assistance with getting on and off the train from NS Travel Assistance.
  • Requests for assistance during an international journey should be submitted at least 36 hours before departure of the train.
