Conditions
  • If you are travelling abroad with a pet, you are bound by the laws and regulations of all the countries you are travelling through. That means your pet must have been chipped, be vaccinated in time against rabies and have a valid pet passport. For more information, please consult your veterinary surgeon.
  • Small pets transported in a cage, bag or basket with a maximum size of 30 x 30 x 55 cm can travel for free.
    • A ticket is not required.
    • If the train is crowded, the cage, bag or basket must go on your lap.
  • Larger dogs that do not fit in a bag, cage or basket must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle.
  • You must purchase a ticket for larger dogs.
  • You must purchase a separate ticket for larger dogs. The price depends on the destination and availability of offers.
    • The ticket for a dog is booked in the same class as the passenger.
    • The price of a dog ticket is 50% of the ticket price for an adult passenger. 
    • It is not possible to reserve a seat for a pet.
  • Pets are not allowed in the bar coach

    • By telephone from NS International Customer service: +31 30 2300023.
    • From a NS International desk at a major station.
    • Dog tickets are not yet available online from NS International.
  • If you are travelling on Intercity Berlin, but you are travelling within the Netherlands, you can purchase a NS Dagkaart Hond [NS dog day ticket] at a NS ticket vending machine.
