Conditions
  • Only take luggage you can carry, load and unload yourself.
  • Luggage must not obstruct others, so do not place any luggage in the aisles; store it in the racks/spaces provided for this.
  • The luggage racks measure around 70 x 50 x 30 cm.
  • Each passenger may take the following luggage on board:
    • 2 items of regular hand luggage such as a suitcase, rucksack, travel back or trolley with a maximum size of 70 x 50 x 30 cm and 1 small item of hand luggage
      or:
    • 1 item of large luggage, 1 item of regular luggage with a maximum size of  70 x 50 x 30 cm and 1 item of hand luggage.
  • You remain responsible for your own property during the journey.
 
Oversized luggage
  • Luggage with the maximum dimensions of 85 cm and maximum weight of 30 kg. Such as:
    • Musical instruments in case.
    • Skis in protective cover.
    • Pushchairs (preferably folding).
    • Folding bicycles (folded).
 
Bicycles
 
Small electronic vehicles
The number of small electronic vehicles, such as electric scooters and hoverboards, is rapidly growing. These can be taken on the train under the following conditions:
  • They can only be taken if there is no risk of damage to passengers or the train. 
  • Place the vehicle under the seat or in the luggage rack in a bag, or secure it to the luggage rack with a lashing strip. 
  • Electric scooters and kickboards can only be taken if folded.
  • They may not be used on the train or at the station. 
  • Luggage or equipment (such as a helmet) must be removed from the vehicle during the journey. 
  • Each passenger may take one small vehicle on the train, so not both an electric scooter and a folding bicycle.  
  • Only built-in batteries are allowed. Batteries must not be removed from the vehicle. 
  • Batteries must not be charged using the power sockets located on the train. 
  • Batteries not built in are deemed hazardous items and may therefore not be taken on the train. The battery's capacity is stated on the battery.
    • Only batteries with a capacity of less than 100 Wh (Watt-hours)/0.1 kWh may be taken. This involves only batteries such as those of mobile telephones, laptops and power banks. 
 
Prohibited luggage
  • EU customs rules also apply to Intercity Berlin. This means that items including, but not limited to, the following are prohibited:
    • Sports weapons such as crossbows or javelins.
    • Ammunition, fireworks.
    • Oxygen canisters, unless accompanied by a medical passport indicating they are necessary.
 
What next
  • If your luggage meets the conditions, you can take on board and stow it free of charge:
    • on the luggage racks above the seats.
    • on the luggage racks at the front and back of a number of carriages.
    • under your seat.
  • It is not possible to pay to take additional luggage.
