What are Swedish night trains
  • Swedish night trains are trains that run within Sweden and between Sweden and Norway. The trains are run by the Swedish railway company Statens Järnvägar (SJ) and can be booked with product range SWE.
  • The Snälltåget night trains cannot be booked through NS International.
  • For Swedish night trains a ticket and seat reservation are mandatory.

  • If you are travelling with four or five persons, you can book the entire compartment: you pay a children's fare for the empty berths. 
  • Toilet and washroom at the end of the carriage. 
  • Power sockets available in most compartments, but are not guaranteed. 
  • There are compartments specifically for women and for men and there are mixed compartments. 
  • You can only book a female compartment through NS International. For 'Contingent type', select: 'Couchette for ladies'. If you do not enter a specific choice, you will receive a space in a mixed compartment.
  
Beds 
  • First class only. 
  • There are ladies' and gentlemen's compartments. 
  • Single for one person, Double for two people and Triple for three people. 
  • The Triple bed compartments are equipped with one washbasin. Shared toilet and shower at the end of the coach. 
  • A triple bed can be booked by compartment type.  
  • If you do not book the entire compartment, state whether you would like a space in a gentlemen's or ladies' compartment.  
  • The 'De Luxe' bed compartments are equipped with their own toilet, washbasin and shower and include soap and towels. 
  • When booking, select  'shower/toilet' for Coach type. 
  • A Double (De Luxe) can only be booked as an entire compartment. 
  • Power sockets in the compartment.
  
Luggage 
  • You can take with you: 
    • Two items of luggage and one computer case or  handbag. 
    • One item of non-standard luggage, such as a folded pushchair, a golf bag, packed skis or a folding bicycle. 
    • Maximum dimensions of one item of luggage: 80 x 35 x 50 cm (l x w x h). 
  • You must be able to carry your own luggage. 
  • The luggage must not hinder others. 
  • At the end of each coach, there is space oversized luggage such as skis. 
  • You can stow your luggage underneath the lower bed in the couchette and sleeper coaches. 
  
Wi-Fi 
  • Wi-Fi is not available. 
  
Catering 
  • Please note: you are not allowed to bring your own alcoholic drinks. 
  • In "De Luxe" sleeper coaches you are served a simple breakfast (not on public holidays and during the summer season). 
  • Bistro/kiosk for small snacks, light meals and drinks. 
  
Children/young people  
  • Children aged up to six travel for free provided they do not occupy a place of their own. If they require a seat, berth or bed of their own, they travel at the Child fare.
  • Children travelling in first class pay the price of an adult.
  • A maximum of two children aged up to 15 accompanied by an adult may travel at the Child fare. 
  • Young people aged 16 to 25 travel at the Youth fare. 
  • Children travelling alone aged up to 15 travel at the Youth fare. 
  
Travelling with a disability 
  • There are no special fares for passengers with a disability and their accompanying passengers. 
  • Your wheelchair may not exceed 67 cm in width and 84 cm in length, and the weight may not exceed 250 kg. 
  • Mobility scooters are not permitted. 
  • If you are travelling with an assistance dog, please reserve through the Swedish railway company. 
  
Travelling with a bicycle 
  • Bicycles are not permitted. 
  • Folding bicycles are permitted only when packed as luggage. 
  
Travelling with pets 
  • Pets are not permitted to travel on the night train. 
    • Exception: assistance dogs (reservations to be made with the Swedish railway company).
