What are Italian domestic day trains 
Italian domestic day trains are day trains running within Italy. There are high-speed trains, Intercity's and regional trains. The high speed trains are known as Freccia trains. There are three Freccia train types: Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca.
 
Frecciarossa. High-speed trains between various major cities. The train number starts with 94.
  • Turin - Milan - Reggie Emilio AV - Bologna - Florence - Rome - Naples - Salerno. 
  • Venice - Papua - Bologna - Florence - Rome - Naples – Salerno. 
  • Trieste/Udine - Venice - Padua - Vicenza - Verona - Brescia - Milan – Turin. 
  • Milan - Reggio Emilia AV - Bologna - Rimini – Ancona - Pescara - Foggia - Bari. 
 
Comfort levels
There are four comfort levels on Frecciarossa trains. Executive, Business, Premium and Standard:
 
Executive (The Executive coach cannot be booked through NS International, it can only be booked through Trenitalia.com)
  • First class. 
  • For business passengers. 
  • A seat reservation is required and included in the ticket
  • Coach with 10 luxury seats. 
  • Meeting room in coach. 
  • In-seat catering. This is included in the ticket
  
Business 
  • First class. 
  • A seat reservation is required and included in the ticket
  • Adjustable seat. 
  • Welcome drink. 
  • In-seat catering. This is not included in the ticket
  • Power socket at each seat. 
  • Newspapers. 
  
Premium 
  • Luxury second class. 
  • A seat reservation is required and included in the ticket
  • Adjustable seat. 
  • Welcome drink. 
  • Power socket at each seat. 
  • In-seat catering. This is not included in the ticket
  • Newspapers. 
  
Standard 
  • Second class. 
  • A seat reservation is required and included in the ticket
  • Power socket at each seat. 
  • Coach primarily with four seats across from each other. A limited number of two-seat spaces. 
  • In-seat catering. This is not included in the ticket
  
Quiet coach 
  • Quiet section available in coach 2. 
  • You book the quiet coach by selecting the + sign in front of Quiet Section. 
  
Frecciargento. High-speed trains to/from Rome. The train number starts with 84. 
  • Rome – Verona. 
  • Rome – Venice. 
  • Rome – Bolzano. 
  • Rome – Reggio Calabria.

  • A seat reservation is required and included in the ticket

There are two comfort levels on Frecciabianca trains: First and second class:
 
Second/first-class seat 
  • A seat reservation is required and included in the ticket
  • Power socket at each seat. 
  • Reading light at each seat. 
 
Services 
The following applies to all Freccia- trains: 
 
Luggage 
  • Maximum of two items of luggage (suitcase, travel bag) and one item of hand luggage per person. 
  • There are luggage racks above the seats and at the end of the coach. 
  • Oversized luggage must also be placed in the regular luggage racks; there is no separate space for this. 
  • Luggage must not be placed in aisles. 
  
Wi-Fi 
  • Free Wi-Fi available in all coaches. 
  
Bar coach 
  • Bar section available in coach 3. 
  • Snacks, drinks and simple meals available. 
  
Travelling with children 
  • Children aged up to 3 travel for free if they do not occupy a seat of their own. 
  • If they require a seat of their own, they travel at the children's fare. 
  • Children aged 4 to 14 travel at the children's fare. 
  
Travelling with a disability 
  • Two wheelchairs and two accompanying-passenger seats coach 3. 
  • These spaces cannot be booked with NS International. 
  • Ticket and reservations are available from the Italian railway company. 
  • Guide/assistance dogs travel for free. 
  
Travelling with a bicycle 
  • Bicycles are not permitted on Freccia trains.
  • However, it is permitted to take bicycles on the majority of regional trains within Italy. NS International does not sell tickets for these trains.

Travelling with pets 
  • It is permitted to travel with a maximum of one pet per person. 
  • Small pets carried in a bag, basket or cage of a maximum of 70x50x30cm travel for free and are permitted at all levels. 
  • Large dogs travel at a charge. They must be on a leash and wear a muzzle. 
  • Large dogs are not permitted in Executive and Premium in Frecciarossa, and in the quiet coach and the bar coach of all Italian trains. 
  • No health certificate is required for travelling with a dog. 
  • The dog ticket cannot be booked with NS International; it is available from the Italian railways company. The price is around € 12. 
Access gates 
  • There are access gates at the Milan Centrale, Rome Termini and Florence Santa Maria stations. The platforms are only accessible to passengers with a valid train ticket. The ticket must be shown to security staff.
